ASICS Fleet Pre-London Half Marathon News Newsletter Issue 2 – 3 January 2010 Amazon Windows & Conservatories continue with their support to the local community and wish all the runners a successful race, with some PBs being achieved. Happy New Year to all our runners! With the disruption of the pre-Christmas snow and all the Christmas family activities behind you, the New Year brings the focus on your training for the ASICS Fleet pre-London Half Marathon. There are only 11 weeks until the big day and this will soon fly by. Focus now needs to be on planning the increase in mileage so come the 21st March, you know you have done what it takes to run a half marathon. Don’t increase it too quickly or you will risk injury and remember to also do some shorter, sharper runs just to give your legs a break from the miles. It also gives you something different to focus on along the way and there are still plenty of cross country events to add to your leg strength along the way. If you would like to run to raise money for a charity you may like to consider our Charity Partner – Leukaemia Research Fund. We have been associated for many years and during this time vital funds have been raised. A downloadable sponsor form is available on the website (www.fleethalfmarathon.com) on the Partners page. Let us know your fundraising stories – we can give you some exposure. 2010 sees the return of the Leukaemia Research Fund TV Times Running Team. As part of The Banana Army they take part in many events to raise the profile and work of this charity. Keep your eyes open when you are running the race – you may well be running alongside someone from Emmerdale or The Bill or other well known personalities (see www.lrf.org.uk for further details). If you have friends or colleagues who have not entered yet, encourage them to do so now – places are filling fast and we anticipate closing the event very soon. Finally if you have friends or family who will be with you on the day and who could help us out with marshalling, we can never have too many volunteers. The event cannot take place without these volunteers – so don’t let them be shy, encourage them to volunteer today. If they are inspired to run in 2011, all volunteers for the 2010 race are guaranteed a place next year Good luck with your training! Penny Abbott Race Director Fleet Half Marathon |
