ASICS Fleet Pre-London Half Marathon News 31 October 2007: Mark 16 March 2008 in your diary The ASICS Pre-London Fleet Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 16th March 2008. Now in its 27th year, the race is widely-recognised as one of the premier half marathons in the country. It is perfectly placed as a warm-up for the London Marathon. Readers of Runner's World magazine have given the race top marks with 95% of 2007 runners saying that they would do the race again. Race Director Martin Payne said: “The ASICS Fleet Pre-London Half Marathon is an important fixture in the running calendar. In 2007, we were full well before the closing date and we had a new men’s course record.” Entry forms can be found in local sports shops, libraries and sports centres or you can enter on-line by visiting the race's Web site www.fleethalfmarathon.com which offers two on-line entry options. The closing date for entries is 16th February 2008, and the organisers urge people to enter early, as the race has been full before this date for the last five years. This prestigious race which has achieved Gold rating by the UK Athletics since the rating was introduced will be using Championchip timing again. This means that every runner will get their true time, starting from when they cross over the start line to when they come over the finish. The main sponsor for the event is ASICS, the international sports company. ASICS has renewed its sponsorship for a further three years showing their commitment and recognition the quality of the Fleet Half Marathon. Local sponsors are Amazon Windows, Hart District Council and Thomas Day Motors. We are also happy to welcome 96.4 Eagle Radio, the local radio station who will be adding to the race atmosphere with the Love Crew. The sponsors' contribution is vital to ensure the race maintains its renowned respect within the athletic arena. The Fleet Half Marathon is one of the UK’s most popular and prestigious half marathons. Founded in 1981, the same year as the London Marathon, the race has attracted top runners and many thousands of runners have completed the fast course. At the same time, charities have benefited from runners raising thousands of pounds. For more information contact publicity@fleethalfmarathon.com. Fast Feet Run Round Fleet ENDS |
