ASICS Fleet Pre-London Half Marathon News 9 March 2008: Fleet welcomes stars of television, stage and screen One aspect that has remained constant about the Fleet Half Marathon over the years is that it has always attracted the TV Times / Leukaemia Research celebrity team. One of the reasons that the celebrities love coming to Fleet is the wonderful support they receive from the people as they wind their way around the town and countryside to complete the 13 mile event. Many members of the team are regular visitors to Fleet. Chris Chittell, Nicola Wheeler, Jeff Horley, Matthew Wolfenden and Neil Wolfenden from Emmerdale will find the streets of Fleet familiar. Similarly, Vicky Binns (Coronation Street), Jason Merrells (Waterloo Road, Cutting It), Steve Hartley (The Bill) and many others have run the race on several occasions. Look out for the celebrities wearing the bright yellow TV Times / Leukaemia Research running vests and give them a cheer. The main sponsor for the event is ASICS, the international sports company. Local sponsors are Amazon Windows, Hart District Council and Thomas Day Motors. We are also happy to welcome 96.4 Eagle Radio, the local radio station who will be adding to the race atmosphere with the Love Crew. The sponsors' contribution is vital to ensure the race maintains its renowned respect within the athletics arena and amongst the people of Fleet. The Fleet Half Marathon is one of the UK’s most popular and prestigious half marathons. Founded in 1981, the same year as the London Marathon, the race has attracted top runners and many thousands of runners have completed the fast course.
